Accessing Your Novell Server (U: Drive) Using FTP from Windows Internet Explorer

Getting Started:  To access your student drive we must verify the following:

1)    You have a working network connection.

2)    Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher.

Note: no version of Internet Explorer will work from a Macintosh.

Step 1: double-click on Internet Explorer or double-click on My Computer

Step 2: Move your mouse pointer to the address bar located at the top of the window and highlight the text in the address bar.

Step 3: replace the text with ftp://ftp.nds.it.uwosh.edu and press the enter key.

Step 4:  A logon box should appear, asking for your user name and password.

Step 4a:  If a login box does not appear, go to File, and select ÔLogin AsÉÕ

Step 5:  At Login box, enter your Novell username and password, and click the ÔLog OnÕ box.

If you do not know or remember your username or password, you can contact the Academic Computing Help Desk at (920)424-3020; Monday through Friday between 7:45 A.M. and 4:30 P.M.

Step 6:    Here is an example of successful login.

Step 7:  Select the desired folders and/or files, and drag them to your desktop or to another open folder.  By dragging the files, windows will copy and not move the contents to the new location.

You can use this same process to copy files and/or folders from your computer to the Novell U: drive.

Step 8:  Once you have copied your files, you can close the window by clicking on the File menu header, and then clicking on close.  You may also just click on the x in the upper right hand corner of your FTP window.
