Tipler Counseling Services
 
The following services are available at Tipler Middle School:
*Counseling to students one on one, in small support groups of 2 to 8, and in classroom instruction.
Topics include but are not limited to:
Coping with divorce and changes in the family structure;
Processing feelings of grief, lose, & disappointment;
Dealing with issues of low self-esteem / self-concept;
Understanding emotions (Sadness, Happiness, Anger, Fear, Shame & Rejection.) Learning how emotions impact our lives and how to be emotionally healthy;
Learning how to communicate our feelings;
Setting goals for the future;
Career education;
Developing good study skills;
Learning how to make good decisions;
Developing healthy relationships;
Learning about protective behaviors;
Developing self acceptance, self respect, and healthy sense of pride;
Developing respect for others and an acceptance of diversity among people;
*Support and assist parents by answering parenting questions, making referrals to community resources, coordinating school/home collaboration.
*Serve as a resource to special education staff and take part in the I.E.P. process.
*Assist teachers, students, and parents with successful academic development.
*Serve as a resource to teacher teams with regard to social, academic and emotional student concerns.
*Plan and implement transition activities as student’s schedule for the next school year.
*Assist students with managing anger.
*Assist teachers and parents with behavior modification plans for students
*Facilitate conflict management and resolution.
*Assist students with test-taking strategies.
*Coordinate services among parents, teachers, and community resources.
